Blue reflectors installed on Pearl Beach roads
New blue cats-eye reflectors are being installed on roads in Pearl Beach to identify the location of fire hydrants.
The reflectors help fire-fighters locate hydrants at night or under low light or smoky conditions.
"Over the years, many of the reflectors in Pearl Beach village have been damaged, lost, or were removed for roadworks," said Pearl Beach fire brigade caption Mr Lindsay Boyd.
Recently, the Pearl Beach Progress Association donated 100 new blue catseye reflectors.
The brigade is providing the tools and crews to installing them.
The first 50 of these reflectors were installed by brigade volunteers over the weekend of March 9 and 10.
"We hope not to need to use them, but knowing they're there means that we can more rapidly get water to put on the fire to protect people and property."
Mr Boyd said the brigade encouraged residents to "Adopt a Hydrant".
Hydrant covers were painted yellow for easy identification with a square lid.
"Ensuring these covers are kept clear of soil and grass further assists firefighting crews in accessing that critical water source if a fire starts.
"One of the first things firefighters need as soon as they arrive at a bushfire, structure fire or car fire is access to a water supply.
"Within Pearl Beach, we're lucky to have underground hydrants which our crews, or Fire and Rescue crews can quickly hook up to pumps."
